Joliet Hotel Employee Threatened With Knife By Crack User: Cops

The 25-year-old Wilmington man was arrested late Thursday night by Joliet police on aggravated assault and criminal trespassing charges.

JOLIET, IL — A 25-year-old Wilmington resident was arrested early Friday morning following a disturbance at Joliet's Baymont Inn and Suites in the 1700 block of McDonough Street. Police say that Devin Goodwin threatened to stab one of the hotel employees after Goodwin was told he needed to leave the property because he was disturbing the other guests.

A couple hours later, Goodwin was arrested by Joliet police officers on charges of aggravated assault and criminal trespass to property. He was also arrested for having crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, police stated.

The initial police call involving Goodwin happened around 11:35 p.m. Thursday.

"Officers determined that Goodwin arrived at the hotel looking for a family member," Joliet police said. "Goodwin became angry when he was advised by staff that Goodwin’s family member was a guest of the hotel."

At that point, Goodwin began knocking on multiple doors throughout the hotel even though it was close to midnight, the police reports reflect.

"Staff advised Goodwin that he had to leave at which time he refused and then threatened the employee with a pocket knife," police said.

By 1:45 a.m., other Joliet officers located Goodwin in the 2400 block of South Chicago Street where he was also arrested on charges of possessing controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.

According to Sgt. Dwayne English, Joliet officers learned of a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Route 66 Food and Fuel at 2401 South Chicago Street. Officers at the scene realized Goodwin was sought from the earlier call at the Baymont Inn. Goodwin was arrested for the earlier incident and was found to be possession of crack cocaine and paraphernalia used for smoking it upon being searched, police indicated.

Goodwin was booked into the Will County Jail around 4:10 a.m. Friday.
