Man Who Killed Brother In Joliet On Parole 6 Years Later
Will County Sheriff's detectives investigated the December 2017 killing of Ricardo Perez at his family's house in Joliet's Ridgewood Area.

JOLIET, IL — Chris Perez, the east side resident who ended his 36-year-old brother's life after Ricardo dared him to shoot him, is out of prison after the Illinois Department of Corrections granted the Joliet convicted murderer parole in October, Joliet Patch has learned.
Patch made the discovery during a recent spot check of Joliet area killers who were sentenced to prison in recent years.
In the summer of 2021, Joliet Patch reported that Chris Perez was being sentenced to 12 years at the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.

Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow approved the plea bargain for the Ridgewood Area killer, a violent crime solved by the Will County Sheriff's Department, since the east-side neighborhood is outside the city of Joliet limits.
Before pleading guilty to ending his brother's life inside the Perez family home in the 1400 block of Sterling Avenue, Chris Perez remained in the Will County Jail for 1,300 consecutive days.

He was taken into custody on the date of his brother's killing, Dec. 3, 2017, and he stayed there until June 24, 2021.
Nowadays, he is 34 years old.
"Victim was in an argument with his mom when the defendant, his brother, stepped in to stick up for his mom," Will County's prosecutors informed Judge Daniel Rippy at the plea bargain. "The victim continued to yell and become angry with both of them. Defendant then produced a handgun and shot the victim while under a sudden and intense passion."

Originally, Glasgow and his criminal prosecutors charged Perez with three counts of first-degree murder. A first-degree murder conviction, on the other hand, would have meant a prison sentence that ranged between 45 years and life.
Under their plea deal offered to Chris Perez, all three first-degree murder counts were dismissed and Perez pleaded guilty to the second degree-murder count, which resulted in the 12-year prison sentence to the Department of Corrections.
Perez, however, did not actually have to serve 12 years.
In reality, he served two years and less than four months.
He served his sentence at the Illinois River Correctional Center in Fulton County, and received his parole on Oct. 4, his inmate records show.
