Joliet Man, 45, Tries To Strangle Woman After Handshake: JPD

JOLIET, IL — A Will County judge set bail at $50,000 for a 45-year-old man from the 1000 block of Retta Court in connection with allegations that he tried to strangle a woman he knew. Late Friday night, 45-year-old Terrance Snapp was booked into the Will County Jail, where he is charged with aggravated domestic battery.

At 2:20 p.m., Joliet police were sent to the 1200 block of Oregon Street for a domestic disturbance. At the scene, police learned that a woman was attacked by Snapp, police reports reflect.

The woman and Snapp had a prior romantic relationship.

"The two conversed in front of the residence while Snapp remained in a Chevrolet Tahoe," police spokesman Dwayne English said. "Snapp extended his hand as if to offer a handshake, and the victim shook his hand. Snapp then pulled the victim into his vehicle and proceeded to choke her to the point of losing consciousness."

English said that Snapp let the victim go before driving away in his vehicle.

Joliet officers found Snapp later on Friday night at his Retta Court house, and he was put into custody without incident, English noted.

Snapp was let out of the Will County Jail over the weekend after posting 10 percent of his bail, jail logs show.
