Joliet Man Arrested After Failed Robbery Attempt: Police

He ran away after his victim escaped, police say. The victim's boyfriend gave chase.

JOLIET, IL — A Joliet man is being accused of trying to rob a woman at knife point at Harrah's casino, according to reports. Darryl Allen, 56, was arrested in connection with the alleged robbery attempt.

The afternoon of Saturday, March 24, Allen walked up to a 35-year-old woman at the valet entrance to the casino, held a knife to her throat and said he was going to rob her, the Herald-News reported Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory as saying.

The woman was able to get away, police say. Her boyfriend, 55, gave chase as Allen ran away. Allen was running north on Joliet Street, the Herald-News reported police as saying, when he stopped and lunged at the boyfriend. The boyfriend dodged the attack and continued to chase Allen.

Casino security eventually detained Allen until police arrived and a knife was allegedly recovered from Allen.

Allen was charged with attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery. His bond was set at $150,000, according to the Herald-News.
