Joliet Man Fired Gun in Air to Show Woman 'How Serious He Was': Police

The Joliet man took off after making his point, police said.

A Joliet man fired a couple shots in the air to show the mother of his child he wasn’t kidding around, police said.

Alfredo Oviedo, 34, was charged with the reckless discharge of a firearm and the unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the alleged shooting Sunday night.

Oviedo and his 37-year-old sister showed up at the Maserati Drive home of his teenage daughter’s mother about 10 p.m., police said.

Oviedo argued with the 36-year-old woman over how she cared for their daughter, police said, and she went inside her house. Oviedo then allegedly produced a pistol and fired twice in the air. He did this to “show how serious he was about the incident,” according to police.

Oviedo took off in a red Cadillac, possibly with another man, police said. Officers reportedly located shell casings at the spot where he supposedly shot his gun.

Officers caught up with Oviedo later on at his Margaret Street home but did not find his gun or the Cadillac, police said. Oviedo was taken to the Will County jail.
