Joliet Man With Loaded Gun Tries To Hide Behind House: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 25-year-old Joliet man remains in the Will County Jail unable to post his $20,000 bail following Friday night's gun arrest on the city's southeast side.

Anthony Jones Jr., from the 1300 block of Englewood Avenue, was taken away in handcuffs on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon, unlawful ammunition possession, having no FOID and resisting arrest.

Around 9:40 p.m., Joliet police pulled over a car near South Ottawa and McDonough Streets for a turning signal violation, police reports show. When the traffic stop happened, Jones opened the rear passenger door of the car and tried to make a run for it, police reports indicate.

He was holding his waistband and refusing orders from the officers to stop, according to police spokesman Dwayne English.

In the 300 block of South Ottawa Street, Joliet police found Jones hiding behind a house, according to police. He was taken into custody without any issues.

With the help of a Joliet police K9, officers recovered a loaded .45 caliber gun from the ground where Jones ran, police said.

Bail was set at $20,000 for Jones, and he remained in custody on Tuesday.
