JOLIET, IL —Kevin Cole, a 38-year-old Joliet man from the 1000 block of Fisk Avenue, has regained his freedom after spending the past three days lodged in the Will County Jail after Joliet police arrested Cole on two crimes of aggravated domestic battery and two crimes of domestic battery.

Cole's case went before the rotating weekend court judge, Brian Barrett, who turned down the Will County State's Attorney's Office petition to deny pretrial release for Cole under the SAFE-T-Act.

According to the prosecutors, around 3 a.m. on Friday, the victim and Cole returned to their west side house after being out drinking alcohol. While they were out at an undisclosed establishment, Cole became upset that the woman "was friendly with a bartender." She described Cole to Joliet police as "very bipolar when he drinks and he assaulted her in multiple locations within the residence. (She) stated that the defendant hit her head against the shower wall before becoming tired and going to sleep," court files show.

Prosecutors told Barrett that when the woman woke up on Friday around 9 a.m., she "discovered that large amounts of her hair had been pulled from her head. (She) showed officers multiple visible injuries to the right side of her head where hair had been pulled out as well as injuries to her left and right knee, which she stated caused significant pain and difficulty walking."

The victim also told Joliet police that she had marks on her right arm. She indicated that "she already had a bald spot on the right side of her head, but Cole made it significantly worse," the prosecutor's petition to deny release noted.

The criminal complaint indicated that Cole was previously convicted in 2015, in Will County, of aggravated domestic battery.

In the end, Judge Barrett ruled in favor of the previously convicted domestic abuser and ordered his release from the Will County Jail on Sunday. However, Judge Barrett issued an order putting Cole on electronic monitoring "until further order" and the judge also ordered Cole to stay away from the woman he is accused of pushing into the wall and pulling her hair. He must also stay away from the house in the 1000 block of Fisk Avenue and obtain a SCRAM device and maintain "absolute sobriety," Judge Barrett's order instructed.
