Joliet Man Scraps With Cops Coming to Question His Cousin: Police

The man grappled with officers on a floor covered with dog feces and urine, police said.

A Joliet man allegedly fought with police officers who came to question his cousin about a stolen cell phone.

David Ceballos, 26, apparently took exception to officers stopping by his Union Street home Thursday night to ask his cousin about the phone, police said. The cousin also reportedly lives at the Union Street residence.

The cousin’s mother reportedly told police she had stolen her T-Mobile prepaid cell phone.

Ceballos refused to go back inside the house, police said, then punched an officer in the face, bloodying his nose.

An officer Maced Ceballos and his uncle, 45-year-old Ralph Gallup, tried to pull him away, police said.

Ceballos and two officers reportedly tumbled into the house and onto the floor. There was a very large dog in the house, police said, and the floor was covered in feces and urine.

A third officer then arrived and hit Ceballos with a Taser, police said.

Ceballos was charged with aggravated battery, resisting a police officer and obstructing a police officer. He was taken to the Will County jail.

Gallup was charged with resisting or obstructing a police officer. He was released on his own recognizance.

Ceballos’ cousin denied stealing the cell phone and the officers did not find it in the residence, police said.
