3 Attempted Murder Charges In Gardner Street Shooting: Complaint

He has a long criminal rap sheet at the Will County Courthouse.

JOLIET, IL - A 37-year-old Joliet man is wanted on a $4 million bench warrant in connection with last weekend's shooting outside Eden's Bar and Grill on the city's east side. The shooting left three men hospitalized with gunshot wounds. One man was shot in the mouth, the second in the back and a third in the knee. Alonzo Gadson, who resides in the 100 block of Edison Road, has been charged with eight felony crimes, but the Joliet Police Department is still trying to find him.

If convicted, Gadson may end up in prison for decades. The Will County State's Attorney's Office has charged Gadson with three charges of attempted first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated battery with a gun, one charge of unlawful use of a weapon and one charge of armed violence.

Joliet Police told Patch over the weekend that one of the shooting victims lived in New Lenox and the other two men lived in Crest Hill.

The shooting occurred late Saturday night in the parking lot for Eden Bar and Grill, 926 Gardner Street, which is located along U.S. 52 and a block away from South Chicago Street, Route 53. The bar is across the street Nowell Park. Back in the 1980s, it was known as Shortley's Corner.

Criminal court records regarding one of the shootings state that Gadson "knowingly made physical contact" with one of the men prior to the shooting "on or about a public place of accommodation, Eden Bar and Grill, located at 926 Gardner Street, Joliet, in that he shoved" the man.

Will County's new judge, Derek Ewanic, set bail at $4 million for Gadson, which means that the defendant will need to come up with $400,000 cash to get out of jail.

The bench warrant indicates that Gadson is 6-foot-6 and weighs 300 pounds. Will County court records show that Gadson was charged with domestic violence in 2001, 2002, marijuana possession in 2003, manufacturing marijuana in 2010, resisting arrest in 2016 and unlawful possession of drugs in 2017.

The January 2017 complaint, filed by the Will County Sheriff's Department, shows that Gadson possessed cocaine on Jan. 12, 2017. Last July, Gadson pleaded guilty to the felony drug charge. He was given two years of conditional discharge, fines and sentenced to time served in jail.
