Joliet Man Threatens To Kill 2 Children, Ages 9 and 10: Police

JOLIET, IL — A 49-year-old Joliet man who threatened to kill two children, ages 9 and 10, and refused to let them out of the downstairs bathroom was released from the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $1,000 bail over the weekend, jail logs show.

On Friday night, Joliet police arrested Edy Parrales-Garcia at his house in the 1200 block of Wisconsin Avenue on charges of domestic battery, unlawful restraint and two counts of assault.

At 10:50 p.m., officers were sent to the Parrales-Garcia property on Wisconsin for a domestic disturbance.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the crime happened this way:

  • Parrales-Garcia had attacked a woman in his household, and then he took the two boys into a bathroom and refused to let them leave. He also would not let their mother enter the bathroom.
  • Eventually, Parrales-Garcia opened the bathroom door and the two children ran upstairs.
  • Parrales-Garcia then ran after the children, threatening to kill them.
  • When their mother intervened, Parrales-Garcia’s kicked her multiple times in the legs and they struggled at the top of the stairs.
  • Parrales-Garcia was taken by a Joliet Fire Department ambulance to Silver Cross Hospital after he claimed being struck by the woman during the incident.
  • Upon his release from the hospital, he was taken to the Joliet Police Department for processing and transferred to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

No other injuries were reported, English said.
