Joliet Menards Retail Theft Leads To Arrest

Joliet police officers responded to the Menards on West Jefferson Street shortly after 6 p.m. Monday.

JOLIET, IL — A 49-year-old Joliet man was arrested Monday evening at the Menards on West Jefferson Street after Joliet police say he tried to steal nearly $1,500 in retail merchandise. Officers arrested Mario Nevarez on felony charges of retail theft shortly after 6 p.m.

Menards employees notified police officers of the shoplifting incident, reports show.

"Officers were able to determine that Nevarez took $1,462 worth of store merchandise, attempting to leave the store without paying for the merchandise, past the last point of sale," police reports show.

According to Joliet police, the stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to Menards.

On Tuesday, a Will County judge set bail at $3,000 for Nevarez, jail logs show.
