Joliet Issues Shelter In Place For Garnsey Avenue Area: Police

Many of Joliet's violent crimes and shootings have taken place on Garnsey Avenue, on the east side of Joliet.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet's Garnsey Avenue, which is where a 4-year-old boy and his mother were slain in January, is now the focus of a shelter-in-place order for residents.

The Joliet Police Facebook bulletin around 9 a.m. on Thursday announced this is an active investigation in the 400 block of Garnsey Avenue. "Residents in this immediate area are urged to shelter in place at this time. Further details will be provided when available."

At 9:40 a.m., police issued an update, saying a search warrant was being carried out at a home on Garnsey "as part of an ongoing investigation."
