Joliet Pickup Truck Driver Crashes Into Tree, Felony DUI: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 66-year-old Joliet man, David Mederich, was arrested in recent days by Joliet police on felony DUI charges after officers say the senior citizen crashed his truck near Black Road and Midland Avenue during the overnight hours.

Joliet police say they found Mederich and his damaged Ford F150 in a parking lot in the 1400 block of Black Road, and that's where his felony arrest happened. He was charged with aggravated DUI and given a notice to appear at the Will County Courthouse.

The incident happened Friday, while most residents of Joliet were asleep.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English:

  • At 2:42 a.m., officers were flagged down by a passing citizen about a single vehicle crash near Black Road and Midland Avenue. The officers found the Ford F150 in the parking lot of 1415 Black Road with front end damage, and the truck appeared to have struck landscaping and a nearby tree. Officers located a man in the driver’s seat of the truck.
  • While speaking to the officers, Mederich exhibited behaviors consistent with alcohol impairment. Mederich became uncooperative and refused to perform field sobriety tests.
  • Officers took Mederich into custody without incident. His truck was towed from the scene.
