Joliet Police Car Window Shattered By Angry, Violent Man: JPD

JOLIET, IL — A 40-year-0ld resident from the Plainfield area of Joliet, the 2400 block of Ruth Fitzgerald Drive, is now in the Will County Jail after violence erupted around dinner time on Sunday at the Super 8 Motel at 1806 McDonough St., Joliet police announced.

William Starks, 40, was jailed by Joliet police on two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two domestic battery counts, criminal damage to state supported property, two counts of obstructing/Resisting a Peace Officer and obstructing justice.

Joliet police say Starks shattered a squad car window during his arrest.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events led to the detention of Starks, who was taken away in a Will County Sheriff's prisoner transport vehicle:

  • At 5 p.m., officers went to the Super 8 Motel for a domestic disturbance. Starks had punched a woman twice in the face, causing her to fall back onto the floor in the lobby.
  • After Starks was placed into a squad car, he kicked and shattered the rear window. Glass from the shattered window struck one officer in the face. Starks was removed from the squad car, and then he kicked an officer in the chest.
  • Starks was eventually secured in a transport van and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility after refusing to cooperate with the booking process.
