3 In Custody: Shelter In Place Lifted In Joliet's Cathedral Area

One of the suspects was arrested in the 1200 block of Taylor Street.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that a shelter in place order issued in connection with a burglary investigation and search for several suspects had been lifted, as of just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

During a 1 p.m. press release update, Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said that four men were involved in this incident, instead of five as previously reported.

Three suspects were apprehended, and the fourth suspect was no longer in the area, authorities believed, so the shelter in place order was lifted at approximately 10:30 a.m.

By 9:15 a.m., three of the suspects had been captured. Officers learned that the men ran from the stolen car in the area of Black Road and Junie Court, and the suspects may have guns.

Officers immediately established a perimeter of the area. A short time later, one of the suspects was arrested in the 1200 block of Taylor Street.

Area residents received notification via a reverse 911 call requesting that they shelter in place while officers conduct their search for the remaining four suspects.

Police K-9s and drones have been deployed to assist in the search as well.
