JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Public Library announced it has hired Valerie Devine, former executive director of the Rialto Square Theatre, to the library staff. Devine will fill the role of special projects coordinator and Monday marked her first day on the job.

“We are thrilled to have Val on our team," said Executive Director of Joliet Public Library, Megan Millen, in Monday's news release. “Her experience in event planning, upbeat energy, and leadership qualities will make her a great fit for the library at an exciting time for us, especially as we plan for the grand reopening of our downtown library in the fall.”

The special projects coordinator develops all-ages programming, procuring exhibits and creating experiences that will draw in more library users, including planning the library’s Star Wars Day, and participating in community wide events like the Light Up the Holidays Festival and Parade.

Devine will also work with local artists and art cooperatives to coordinate the Ottawa Street Branch’s new art studio space and display local artwork year round, the library said.

“Val’s hard work and success at the Rialto has already made her well known in Joliet,” Millen remarked. “We look forward to working with Val through the completion of our remodel project at the Ottawa Street Branch and beyond.”
