Joliet Resident Dead After Semi Crash On I-55

FOREST VIEW, IL — A Joliet resident died after an overnight semitrailer crash on the Stevenson Expressway, according to reports.

The incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on southbound Interstate 55 at Harlem Avenue in Forest View, according to state police. A passenger vehicle struck the back of a semi before leaving the road and overturning, police said.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified by the Chicago Sun-Times as a Joliet resident, was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead, according to police.

Southbound lanes of the Stevenson were shut down, but all had reopened by around 7 a.m., police said, adding the investigation is ongoing.
