
Joliet Public Schools District 86 has increased the daily rate for substitute teachers to $130 a day, up from $115. In addition, substitute teachers who work more than 60 days in the District, the pay rate increases to $140 a day. The District approved the increases at last week’s Joliet Public Schools District 86 Board of School Inspectors meeting.
“We always have a need for quality substitute teachers,” said Joliet Public Schools District 86 Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and Labor Relations Dr. Cheryl Woods-Clendening. “Guest teachers are a valuable member of our educational family who help maintain a positive classroom environment when a teacher is absent.”
Substitute teachers do not have to have a teaching background. Individuals can be retired community members, stay-at-home parents wishing to work a few times a month, or even people who have a full-time job with flexible days off during the school week. Substitute teachers must have a Bachelor’s Degree and a substitute license or Professional Education License (PEL).
