Joliet Squad Car Crash: Motorist, 48, Gets 2 Tickets

Monday's wreck at Ingalls and Larkin Avenues involved a marked Joliet police car with its emergency lights flashing, authorities said.

JOLIET, IL — A 48-year-old Joliet woman received two tickets from the Joliet Police Department after her vehicle collided with a Joliet police vehicle responding to an emergency call, authorities said. The woman and the officer were taken to St. Joe's hospital with minor injuries.

Monday's wreck happened around 7:30 a.m. and involved a total of three vehicles at the intersection of Ingalls and Larkin Avenues.

According to Joliet Police spokesman Dwayne English, the following events occurred:

  • A Joliet police's Ford Explorer was driving northbound on Larkin Avenue approaching Ingalls Avenue with its emergency lights and sirens activated, responding to a call.
  • The officer slowed for the northbound North Larkin Avenue red stoplight and proceeded through the intersection, at which time the squad was struck on the passenger side by a Chevrolet Impala driven by driver Lorena Lindsey.
  • The 48-year-old Joliet woman was driving her Chevrolet Impala on Ingalls Avenue.
  • The collision forced the Impala into a Kia Forte driven by a 37-year-old Joliet man who was stopped at the red light on Larkin Avenue. The man driving the Kia Forte was not injured.
  • Lindsey was cited for failure to yield to emergency vehicles and operating a vehicle with suspended registration.
