Joliet Sweet Shop Gji's Closes
It remains to be seen who will fill the vacancy just up the street from the Joliet Chamber of Commerce Office.

JOLIET, IL - On Friday afternoon, downtown Joliet's Gji's Sweet Shoppe was open for business, hours before thousands flocked to North Chicago Street for the Joliet Chamber's annual New Orleans North festival. But on Monday morning, the storefront was vacant. A Caton Commercial for lease sign was plastered in the front window along the sidewalk.
City of Joliet workers told Patch they were stunned by the development, considering the store has been around downtown Joliet during the past 10 years, and it was open on Friday, just like always. Gji's was at 81 North Chicago St., which is at the corner of Van Buren and Chicago across the street from the Rialto.
"Located in historical downtown Joliet district and Route 66, Gji's Sweet Shoppe offers nostalgic candy, popcorn and hard to find soda pops," Giji's Facebook page proclaims.

But those days are over. On Monday, the lights were off and nobody was inside at Gji's.
