Joliet Target Thief Faces 2 Charges: Prosecutors
Stealing is a criminal offense and Will County prosecutors intend to seek an enhanced sentence against Nicole James.

JOLIET, IL — A 46-year-old Schaumburg woman remains detained in the Will County Jail following her arrest by Joliet Police at the Target store on Plainfield Road. The criminal complaint accuses Nicole James of stealing several hundred dollars worth of infant baby formula and baby clothes at the Target on Jan. 6. The Will County State's Attorney's Office has charged James with two charges of retail theft.
James, court records show, is already a convicted thief. She was previously convicted of committing grand theft in Florida's Miami Dade County Circuit Court. As a result, James "is hereby placed on notice that it is the intent of the people of the state of Illinois to seek an enhanced Class 4 sentence based upon the defendant's prior conviction for grand theft," court documents show.
James remained in Will County's Jail as of Jan. 20 on a no-bail hold. She also faces a temporary police hold from the Streamwood Police Department plus a fugitive warrant from Delaware County in Indiana.
