Joliet Tattoo Artist Captured During Joliet MANS Unit Raid On North Center Street: Prosecutors
Will County Judge Chrystel Gavlin agreed with the Will County State's Attorney's Office petition to detain Cory Mixan, 38, of Joliet.

JOLIET, IL — A 38-year-old Joliet man on North Center Street will remain in the Will County Jail indefinitely now that Will County Judge Chrystel Gavlin has imposed the dangerousness standard of the Illinois SAFE-T-Act against Cory Mixan.
The Joliet Metropolitan Area Narcotics unit including members of the Joliet Police Department were responsible for this week's 12 criminal charges filed against Mixan. Many of his charges consist of possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender. There's also unlawful possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
According to the prosecution's successful petition to deny pretrial release for Mixan, on Monday, the police officers executed a search warrant for the garage at 7 North Center in Joliet and to arrest Mixan. The defendant was present with a woman who indicated she was just visiting and that Mixan lived at the garage.

"The defendant admitted that he was using the garage as a tattoo shop and there may be a small amount of personal use
heroin," prosecutors informed Judge Gavlin.
Officers recovered 41 bullets for a .380 handgun in the living room area and a .380-caliber handgun in the couch cushion, court files show.

From a safe under a recliner, officers recovered a .22-caliber revolver, a 9-millimeter polymer "ghost" handgun, and the defendant's Illinois State identification card. From a box near the couch, officers recovered 8.3 grams of positive testing
cocaine, 1.09 grams of positive testing methamphetamine, and 2.06 grams of more positive testing cocaine, prosecutors revealed.
As for Mixan, the Joliet man has a 2004 aggravated robbery conviction from DuPage County, unlawful use/possession of a weapon by a felon in Cook County from 2009 and an armed robbery in Cook County from 2015.
The Will County Jail logs listed as Mixan as residing in the 1500 block of Brandon Road but given the information supplied in the pretrial detention petition, the Brandon Road location is clearly outdated.
