Joliet Woman, 39, Critical, Volkswagen Rollover On Route 6

Joliet police closed the roadway for several hours as officers reconstructed the crash scene on Route 6.

JOLIET, IL — A 39-year-old Joliet woman is fighting for her life after being critically injured Wednesday afternoon in a wreck along Route 6 and Cherry Street.

Joliet Police spokesman Dwayne English announced that the one-car crash happened at 3:50 p.m.

  • The woman's Volkswagen Beetle driven was northbound on Railroad Street, which is Route 6, approaching Cherry Street when the vehicle veered to the left across the opposing lanes and struck a tree after leaving the roadway on the west side of the street.
  • The collision caused the vehicle to overturn. The woman was taken to the Ascension St Joseph Medical Center by a Joliet Fire Department ambulance and she's in critical condition.
  • The roadway was closed for several hours as Joliet police reconstructed the crash scene. The crash is under investigation by the Joliet Police Traffic Unit.
