JOLIET, IL —The Joliet Police Department made several domestic violence arrests this past weekend, including 41-year-old Gerardo Hernandez-Perez, who must remain in the Will County Jail after his arrest on domestic battery charges.

Joliet Patch has obtained the petition to deny pretrial release for Hernandez. After hearing the arguments, Will County Judge Chrystel Gavlin ruled in favor of keeping the Ohio Street criminal defendant detained under the SAFE-T-Act.

Prosecutors charged Hernandez with two counts of domestic battery, both misdemeanors. The prosecution's filing indicates that Joliet police responded to the domestic call in the 400 block of Ohio Street on Saturday afternoon, where the victim lived along with Hernandez. The woman said Hernandez "was intoxicated and angry. She tried to calm him down and he punched her multiple times on her legs, hands, wrists and her torso. She had red marks and swelling on her wrists and knees," prosecutors revealed. "She waited for him to fall asleep and called the police. She did not need medical attention.

"She stated he has been physically abusive with her approximately eight times prior to this incident," prosecutors wrote. "She also indicated that he drinks and uses drugs excessively since their son passed away ... the People pray that this honorable court deny the defendant pretrial release."
