Joliet Woman Shot On Meridian Drive Over Weekend: Will County

The Joliet Township woman was shot in the head and abdomen. Nobody has been arrested yet.

JOLIET, IL - The Will County Sheriff's Department announced Monday that a 35-year-old woman who lived in Joliet Township was shot over the weekend. Police learned about the crime shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday. Plainfield Township Fire was called to respond to a woman bleeding from her head. The woman had suffered one gunshot wound to her head and another to her abdomen. Plainfield fire rushed her by ambulance to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, the sheriff's department announced.

"She was conscious at the time of transport and was immediately taken into surgery," sheriff's spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer stated in the press release issued Monday morning.

The shooting victim's condition was unknown at this time, Hoffmeyer indicated. Meridian Drive is right off Caton Farm Road near Crystal Lawns.

Sheriff's detectives spoke with family members at the home on Meridian Drive who indicated they were sleeping at the time. "Detectives believe that the victim was specifically targeted, and that there is no danger to the public," the sheriff's release states.

The investigation is now in its third day. So far, nobody has been arrested in connection with the targeted shooting.

"Sheriff's detectives ... remain vigilant in their investigation into possible suspects," Hoffmeyer stated.
