Joliet Passenger Killed In Red Light Crash On Houbolt Road Identified By Coroner
Joliet police say the Mercury's driver disregarded a red light and struck a semi-tractor trailer driven by a 68-year-old Palos Park man.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that an overnight crash at Route 6 and Houbolt Road ended the life of a 21-year-old passenger from Joliet. This marks the city of Joliet's first traffic fatality of the year. The Will County Coroner identified the victim as Jayden Norris.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 2:46 a.m. on Saturday, the officers responded to the intersection of Channahon Road and Houbolt Road for a crash with injuries.
A Mercury Grand Marquis, driven by a 20-year-old Joliet man with a 21-year-old Joliet man as a passenger, was traveling eastbound on Channahon Road approaching Houbolt Road. According to English, Joliet police believe the Mercury disregarded a red traffic signal and struck a semi-tractor trailer driven by a 68-year-old Palos Park man that was traveling northbound on Houbolt Road through the intersection on a green traffic signal, according to witnesses.

The 20-year-old driver of the Mercury was taken by a Joliet Fire Department ambulance to St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the Mercury was discovered unresponsive by officers and pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the semi-tractor trailer was not injured, English said.

Route 6 was closed for several hours while investigators conducted a reconstruction of the crash scene.
