Joliet Selfie Studio Opens: Here's What It Looks Like

JOLIET, IL —After three months of remodeling the main storefront in downtown Joliet's historic Barber Building, Jasmine Foster and Ashley Duncan had their grand opening Friday night for Studio 88 Selfie Suites.

Studio 88 Self Suites, located at 68 North Chicago St., is now the first selfie studio business to open in Joliet. There are 16 different selfie installations, and the new photography business offers 2,200 square feet of floor space.

"Selfies are for all ages," Duncan told Joliet Patch's editor before Friday's grand opening gala. "If you need help, we can teach you as well."

Foster has already been an established professional photographer for several years in Joliet. Studio 88 Selfie Suites also has a traditional studio for babies, maternity, children and family photos, Foster said.

As for the individual selfie studios, "we will change them every six months," Foster said. "The hardest part is getting the booths up."

During Joliet's Light Up the Holidays Parade festival, the owners of Studio 88 let people come inside to check out their new business.

"What's a selfie studio?" Duncan remarked. "A place you have different backgrounds, and you just take pictures. Exactly how it sounds is what it is."

Foster and Duncan say they spent several weeks promoting their new business on Facebook and on Instagram.

Customers are urged to purchase their selfie tickets online through the Studio88 website.

"We're also big on party space, birthday parties and events and local business expos," Foster pointed out. "We want to highlight other businesses with ours."

"We're just trying to offer a different type of space and venue," Duncan said. "We're really excited to finally open our doors, so people can see what we've been working on. It turned out better than we could have expected."

Studio 88 Selfie Suites is now open 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It's closed Mondays.
