JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department has charged 36-year-old Joliet resident Mario Noble in connection with this week's death of 42-year-old Jermane Pettigrew. Pettigrew was shot multiple times on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 3 in the 300 block of Pine Street. He was conscious and alert when the Joliet Fire Department transported him to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical. However, he died Wednesday at the hospital, the coroner's office announced.

Joliet police had indicated that Pettigrew was shot following a fist fight that broke out on Pine Street. On Friday, Joliet police captured Noble on a bench warrant issued by Will County Circuit Judge Daniel Kennedy.

Noble was booked into the Will County Jail over the lunch hour Friday. His bail has been set at $1.5 million.

The criminal complaint, signed by Joliet Police Detective Shawn Filipiak, charges Noble with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. The complaint was signed by police Sept. 4, which is five days before Pettigrew died.

Therefore, it's possible the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow will file an amended complaint, charging Noble with murder, rather than attempted murder. Joliet Patch has reached out to Glasgow's spokeswoman, Carole Cheney, for comment.

According to Friday's criminal complaint, Noble was convicted in Will County in 2018 of aggravated driving under the influence, a felony, therefore he was not allowed to possess a gun at the time police say he shot Pettigrew on Pine Street, Joliet's near west side.
