$100,000 Bail In Oneida St. Shooting That Left Man, 32, Critical

Friday's gun violence happened near Oneida and Hickory on Joliet's near west side.

JOLIET, IL — A 28-year-old Joliet man, Davonte Farries, was arrested by Joliet police detectives several hours after a shooting in the 300 block of Oneida Street left a 32-year-old man fighting for his life in critical condition at St. Joe's.

Around 9:30 p.m, Friday, the shooting defendant was booked into the Will County Jail on charges of reckless conduct, reckless discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon.

The shooting happened just before 2 p.m., Joliet police announced.

Joliet police say the victim was taken to St. Joe's hospital in a private vehicle. The victim was shot as he was standing near a vehicle.

"As this investigation progressed, detectives identified Farries as the suspect," police spokesman Dwayne English announced. "It is believed that Farries was handling a handgun while seated in the backseat of a vehicle, at which time the handgun discharged, striking the victim who was sitting in the front seat. Farries was located in the 700 block of West Jefferson Street and placed into custody following questioning."

Bail for Farries was set at $100,000. He remained in custody on Sunday night, unable to post the necessary 10 percent.
