Joliet's Youth Gone Wild: 4 Underage Juveniles Captured After Handgun, Backpack Incident On Summer Rose Drive

JOLIET, IL — It does not happen often, but once in a while, a group of Joliet children are captured by the Joliet police in connection with mob action crimes. The latest incident happened on Labor Day weekend.

Following questioning, the following juveniles were charged:
• 15-year-old male - aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful use of weapon, mob action
• 15-year-old male – mob action
• 12-year-old male – mob action
• 13-year-old male – mob action

On Sunday at 3:51 p.m., Joliet's officers responded to the 6000 block of Summer Rose Drive for a disturbance involving multiple juvenile boys.

Police spokesman Dwayne English said that the juveniles involved were believed to be acquaintances and that a disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which it is alleged that clothing and other personal property were taken from two juvenile victims.

The victims were also allegedly struck about the head and face with a handgun. The suspects then fled the area.

English said the officers established a perimeter and conducted a thorough search of the area. One of the juvenile suspects was found by a Will County Sheriff's deputy near Route 59. The juvenile was then taken into custody and transported to the Joliet Police Department.

Officers located the other suspects in the 5800 block of Theodore Street, and they were placed into custody.
During the search of the area, a Plainfield Police Department K9 Unit located a backpack, and a Joliet officer located an unloaded 9mm handgun, both near the 1600 block of Sierra Highlands Drive. Both items were believed to be associated with the incident, English noted.

Both 15-year-olds and the 12-year-old were processed and transported to the River Valley Justice Center. The 13-year-old juvenile was processed and released to a parent.
