JPD: Tremayne Smith Tried To Punch Cop, But He Missed
Joliet Police officials said that Smith's punch missed the officer's head.

JOLIET, IL - Saturday turned into a bad night for Tremayne Smith on several fronts and now the 21-year-old Joliet man finds himself incarcerated inside the Will County Jail facing a felony charge of aggravated battery against a police officer and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest. Around 8 p.m., Smith's 19-year-old girlfriend wanted him gone, out of her apartment in the 900 block of Lois Place. But, according to Joliet Police officials, Smith, who did not reside there, simply would not leave under any circumstances.
The young woman finally called the police and a pair of Joliet officers responded to the call. They found Smith still inside the apartment, arguing with his girlfriend. The argument moved into the hallway, police said, and that's when Smith remained dead set on getting back inside the apartment.
When the officers stopped him from getting inside the unit, "Smith decided to punch one of the officers in the face. That punch did not connect and the officer blocked it," Deputy Chief of Police Edgar Gregory said.

Next, Smith tried to drive his shoulder into the officer, but the officer managed to take Smith down to the ground, and Smith was apprehended and put into handcuffs, Gregory said.
Smith was booked into the Will County detention facility around 9 p.m. Saturday and he remained in custody as of Monday night.
