JTHS Class of 2020 Spotlight: Mikayla Nicole Miller

JWHS congratulates Mikayla Miller, Class of 2020, for her recent graduation and for epitomizing the JTHS Character Attribute of Perseverance

Joliet West High School congratulates Mikayla Nicole Miller, Class of 2020, for her recent graduation and for epitomizing the JTHS Character Attribute of Perseverance.

“I have moved so much that graduating is one of my greatest accomplishments,” said Mikayla. “I sometimes can’t believe I made it this far.”

In addition to persevering in her studies at Joliet West High School, Mikayla also actively participated in the JT Cyborgs Robotics Team and No Name Club. By getting involved in afterschool activities, Mikayla was able to learn new skills and form new and meaningful friendships.

When asked what was one of her favorite memories at Joliet West High School, Mikayla said, “The one thing I won’t forget is going to Homecoming and meeting a lot of new people.”

Mikayla also recalled having been positively impacted by her teacher Mrs. Karles, saying, “She pushed me to do stuff I would not have thought I could do.”

Now that Mikayla has achieved her goal of graduating high school, she plans to continue setting new goals and persevering. Mikayla will continue her studies at Joliet Junior College to complete her general education. Afterward, she plans to transfer to a four-year university. Mikayla has received a 6 year scholarship to continue her education beyond high school.

Reflecting on her high school experiences, Mikayla offers the following advice to incoming freshman: “Join as many clubs or sports as you can because high school goes by with a blink of an eye. Also, make as many friends as you can.”

Sheral Howard, Mikayla’s guardian, says “She has been through so much and graduation is one amazing feat.”
