July 31 Murder On Jefferson Street Solved With Teen's Arrest: JPD

JOLIET, IL — Two months after the Jefferson Street parking lot murder of 35-year-old Jaron Lymon, Joliet police announced that an 18-year-old teen has been captured by federal marshals in Georgia.

The arrest of Marquis Johnson took place early Tuesday morning in Lithonia, Georgia, Joliet police revealed Friday. The Joliet teen now faces three counts of first-degree murder.

Lymon lost his life around 2 a.m. on July 31 in the parking lot of The Credit Clique and Suites, 1308 West Jefferson Street. Joliet's overnight patrol officers heard several gunshots and rushed to the scene, finding Lymon was shot several times.

At St. Joe's hospital, he was pronounced dead.

"Throughout the course of this investigation, detectives identified Johnson as a suspect in the homicide," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said.

On Aug. 26, Joliet police detectives got an arrest warrant for Johnson for three counts of murder, and a judge set bail at $1.5 million.

"We at the Joliet Police Department wish to offer our condolences to the family and friends of Jaron Lymon. I’m extremely proud of our Investigations Division for aggressively tracking down this cold-blooded killer. Thank you to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force for their vital assistance in this case," Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans said.

Johnson is now in the Dekalb County Jail in Decatur, Georgia, where he is being held while awaiting extradition back to the Will County Jail in Joliet.

Sgt. English told Joliet Patch that he did not have a mugshot of Johnson available yet.
