Kevin Reed Pepper-Sprayed Ex-Girlfriend's Eyes, Police Say

Reed lists his address as 611 East Cass Street, which is Joliet's Daybreak Shelter.

JOLIET, IL - Tempers flared Monday night between Kevin Reed and his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend and the ordeal eventually left the 32-year-old Joliet man inside the Will County Jail where he's charged with three crimes related domestic violence. Joliet police say that Reed and his ex-girlfriend had an argument in a house in the 800 block of John Street. The arguing intensified, and Reed got into the woman's face, police say.

The woman pulled out a can of pepper spray and she threatened to use it, but that's when Reed grabbed the can out of her hand, police say. "Our victim says that Reed took it and sprayed two bursts into her eyes and pushed her to the living room floor," Deputy Chief of Police Ed Gregory said.

There was a 19-year-old man at the house and Reed went outside on the front porch and began swinging a knife at him, Gregory said. Reed then went back inside and grabbed his ex-girlfriend around her neck to the point where she felt intense pain, Gregory said. Joliet police officers were alerted to the domestic violence and officers responded quickly and Reed was arrested.
