Little Gianni Reyes Murdered On Joliet's Garnsey Avenue: 'Our Family Is Devastated'

Both families are in agreement and working together to plan and honor his life, the GoFundMe announced.

JOLIET, IL — Two days after Joliet's senseless murders of a little 4-year-old boy and his 36-year-old mother, a GoFundMe has been established for Gianni Reyes and his mother Joselynn Diaz-Garcia. The Joliet mother and her young son were fatally shot in their backyard on Sunday morning at 718 Garnsey Ave.

Joliet police said the 29-year-old killer remains at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood after suffering significant gunshot wounds to his leg that were self-inflicted.

No arrests and no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the Joliet double murders.

Tuesday's GoFundMe is called, "A Loving Farewell for Gianni Reyes."

"Our family was shaken by a heartbreaking act of violence Gianni & Joselynn were tragically murdered leaving behind family and a brother with special needs," the GoFundMe reads. "Gianni brought joy and light into our lives. he was a son to all of us, and he was deeply loved especially by his grandparents, Aunts and Uncles who cared for him as his own.

"Our family is devastated and now facing the emotional and financial burden of laying a child to rest. This GoFundMe has been created to help cover funeral and memorial expenses, as well as immediate needs during this incredibly painful time."

A separate GoFundMe for Garnsey Avenue murder victim Joselynn Diaz-Garcia is called, "Support for Jorge’s Family After Tragic Loss."
