Loaded Rifle Found At Star Inn Plaza, Joliet Police Make Arrest

JOLIET, IL — A 41-year-old Joliet man who was staying at the Star Inn Plaza at 2219 1/2 West Jefferson St. is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say he brought a rifle to the motel.

According to police,Jwas arrested Friday on charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, having no FOID, a Will County arrest warrant and a Kendall County arrest warrant.

The Star Inn Plaza summoned Joliet police to the motel on Jefferson Street around 12:15 a.m. "for a report of motel staff locating a rifle in a guest room," police reports reflect.

"Officers determined that hotel staff had located a rifle in a dresser after the previous room guest had checked out of the room. Officers recovered the loaded rifle and identified the room guest as Gyenfie, who was not on the scene," Joliet police announced.

Later on Friday morning, officers spotted Gyenfie hanging around the parking lot of the former Bob Evans restaurant on McDonough Street and placed him into custody after a brief foot chase, police said.

Officers determined that Gyenfie held two active failure to appear arrest warrants, one in Will County for criminal trespass and the other a Kendall County warrant for driving on a revoked license, according to Joliet police.

Bail for Gyenfie has been set at $35,000, Will County jail logs show. The 41-year-old Joliet man lives in the 1300 block of Pequot Street.
