Local Attorney to Open Restaurant in Former 'The Department' Location

New eatery could open this fall in downtown Joliet.

Carmen Rossi, a Frankfort attorney and Chicago-area restaurateur, is opening a new eatery called Juliet's in the former location of The Department, 205 N. Chicago St.

Rossi told WJOL he was a fan of the restaurant, which closed in March due to financial issues.

"The building is so unique and the space inside has a lot of history and a lot of character," Rossi said. "It is important to develop a concept that compliments the space, and I think we're on track to do that."

Rossi owns five restaurants in Chicago, including the upscale Hubbard Inn and Barn & Company.

Mayor Tom Giarrante this week confirmed that Rossi has applied for a liquor license for the new business. Renovations are also reportedly under way at the downtown Joliet building.

Rossi, the son of former Frankfort mayor and current Will County Judge Ray Rossi, told WJOL he is planning to open Juliet's in the fall.

Rossi may not be the only Chicago restaurant owner to open up shop in downtown Joliet. The owner of the Lockdown Bar & Grill in the Ukrainian Village has been working for more than a year to bring a second location to the former Crabigale's Comedy Club site at Cass and Chicago streets.
