Small Child Hurt In Crash With Box Truck On Plainfield Road: JPD

JOLIET, IL — A 32-year-old man from Cicero has been cited by the Joliet Police Department for causing Wednesday morning's major crash that sent several people, including a small child, to St. Joe's hospital.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 8:30 a.m., officers responded to Plainfield Road and Interstate 55 for a crash with injuries. An International box truck driven by Brandon Maldonado, 32, of Cicero, was traveling westbound on Plainfield Road near the southbound I-55 on-ramp.

"It is believed the truck attempted to make a left turn onto the ramp and struck an eastbound Mazda MX-6 driven by a 29-year-old Plainfield man," English said.
The Mazda was also occupied by two female passengers, ages 31 and 6 months.

As a result of the collision, the Mazda overturned and then struck a Ford Edge that was stopped in eastbound traffic, English revealed.
The drivers of the box truck and the Ford Edge were not injured.
The driver and passengers of the Mazda were all taken to Saint Joseph Medical Center by the Plainfield Fire Protection District with minor injuries. The drivers of the box truck and the Ford Edge were not injured, the police indicated.
English said that Maldonado was issued a citation for failure to yield while turning left.
