JOLIET, IL — A 31-year-old Joliet man attacked an 80-year-old employee at the 76 gas station, leaving him with a bleeding head wound, police said.

Joliet officers responded to the gas station at 1805 W. Jefferson St. just before noon on June 30 for a report of an employee who had been beaten, police said.

According to Joliet Police spokesman Sgt. Dwayne English, officers found an 80-year-old man who works at the gas station bleeding from the head and determined he had been struck multiple times with a wooden stick.

At the scene, English said officers recovered the wooden stick they believe was used in the attack and reviewed store surveillance footage showing a suspect entering the store and immediately engaging in an argument with the employee. According to police, the victim had picked up the stick in an attempt to defend himself before the suspect knocked him to the ground, took the stick and hit him multiple times in the head and face.

The suspect then fled on foot, according to police, who said officers attempted to find the man but were unsuccessful.

Investigators later identified the suspect as Jeffrey Bohn, who is listed as homeless, police said.

Bohn was found around 2:40 p.m. July 4 in the 200 block of South Larkin Avenue and taken into custody without incident, according to English.

Bohn is charged with three counts of aggravated battery. He remains in custody at the Will County Adult Detention Facility, according to jail records.

He appeared in court on Monday and has another court date on July 27, according to jail records.

It's not Bohn's first time in the jail. In November, he was arrested after police say he was accused of trespassing at the Larkin Avenue Sam's Club and approaching customers, possibly asking for money.
