Man Falls On Train Tracks Running From Joliet Police, License Plates Stolen From Morris: Forfeiture
The Will County State's Attorney's Office filed a vehicle forfeiture seeking to seize the 2009 Mini Cooper driven by Luis Martinez-Duran.
JOLIET, IL — Luis Martinez-Duran spent two days in the Will County Jail last month following his latest Joliet police arrest on the city's east side and now he's been notified that the 2009 Mini Cooper he was driving is the target of a vehicle forfeiture complaint filed by Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow and his team of prosecutors.
The fate of the Mini Cooper is set for a Will County Courthouse hearing on June 24.
According to the filing, Joliet police officers Trujillo and Janich were on routine patrol along Collins and Elwood Streets when they saw the Mini Cooper with heavy tinted windows going at a high rate of speed. With the Joliet police in hot pursuit, the Mini Cooper turned on Elwood Avenue and the driver exited and ran off, court documents show.

Meanwhile, Officer Trujillo recognized the fleeing suspect as Luis Martinez-Duran, who had two failure to appear in court warrants out for his arrest. Trying to get away, Martinez-Duran ran to the alley and then northbound into the 700 block of Parks Avenu;, he ran past Ward Avenue where he tripped and fell into the railroad tracks, court files indicate.
That's where Officer Trujillo placed Martinez-Duran under arrest on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding the police, as well as concealing/altering the vehicle's registration plates. The license plates had been stolen out of Morris, court records reflect.

"Luis Martinez-Duran stated he heard the sirens and also that he knew he had warrants due to using his brother's name in previous police contacts," the forfeiture indicated.
At the police station, Martinez-Duran was booked into custody on the aggravated fleeing charges as well as having no valid license and operating without motor vehicle insurance. He then spent the next two days in the Will County Jail before one of the judges ordered his release.
Martinez-Duran also spent four days in the Will County Jail in January. He comes from the 400 block of Elwood Avenue.
