Update: Man Who Plummeted to Death From Cell Phone Tower Identified

The 37-year-old Wilmington man has been identified by authorities.

A man plummeted to his death from a Wilmington cell phone tower Tuesday evening.

The 37-year-old man was found near the base of the cell phone tower at the intersection of Route 53 and New River Road about 6 p.m.

“Initial investigation indicates the subject fell from the cell phone tower and was not an employee of the cell phone company,” according to a statement released by the Will County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office was withholding the man’s name Wednesday morning pending the notification of his next-of-kin. He was a resident of Wilmington, according to the coroner’s office.

The Wilmington Police Department is investigating the man’s death. An autopsy was scheduled for later today.
