Argonne Lab Employee Roughs Up Joliet Cops: Complaint
Dean Carbaugh has retained The Tomczak Law Group in downtown Joliet to handle his criminal defense.

JOLIET, IL — A 51-year-old Plainfield area man who works for the Argonne National Lab pushed a pair of Joliet police officers last weekend after the officers responded to a domestic violence disturbance at the man's house in the 2400 block of Leckrone Drive, prosecutors claim.
This week, the Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow charged Dean Carbaugh with two counts of aggravated battery, one charge of domestic battery and one charge of resisting the arrest. The four charges stem from an early morning incident on Sunday, Jan. 26.

According to the criminal complaint, Carbaugh pushed a woman who is a relative or a member of his household and then scuffled with Joliet officers Andres Prado and Jennifer Gruber.

Carbaugh "pushed Jennifer Gruber about the body ... knowing Jennifer Gruber to be a peace officer engaged in the performance of her duties," the complaint reads.
Also, Carbaugh pushed Prado and then "pulled his arms away while being handcuffed and said action by the defendant was the proximate cause of an injury to Andres Prado," the complaint states.
The time of Carbaugh's arrest, Joliet Police logs indicate, was 1:22 a.m.
This week, a Will County judge approved two separate orders of protection to keep Carbaugh away from his wife as well as her 20-year-old daughter. "He is very angry and verbally abusive," the woman notified the judge. "He can also be very controlling. He has punched holes in the walls of the basement. He tells me I am a horrible person."
The woman's daughter also notified Will County's judges that on Sunday, Jan. 26, "Dean threatened to drug my mom. I told him not to. He got in my face pushing me backwards. Told me to get out of the house," court files show. "The neighbor told Dean to leave and I called 911 and he was arrested."
According to the young woman's order of protection petition, "For the last five years Dean ... gets in my face and pushes me around. I am afraid because he is very violent and doesn't think when he gets mad."
On Monday night, Carbaugh walked out of the Will County Jail after posting 10 percent of his $50,000 bail. He has hired private criminal defense counsel, opting to retain the services of attorney Jeff Tomczak at The Tomczak Law Group in downtown Joliet, court records indicate.
