Man & Woman Charged With Heroin-Induced Homicide, Arrest Warrants Carry $1 M Bond

The couple was charged in connection with the heroin overdose death of a Lockport man.

A man and woman allegedly caused the August heroin overdose death of a Lockport man.

Benjamin Camunias and Amy Shemberger, both 30, were charged with drug-induced homicide and the unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

Camunias, a Romeoville resident, and Shemberger, who is from Lockport and now lives in Antioch, allegedly provided a fatal dose of heroin to 31-year-old Peter Kucinski in August.

Kucinski was reportedly found unconscious and unresponsive at his Lockport home. Court records show Shemberger lived at the same residence.

Kucinski was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. He was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.

An official said a second woman may also be charged in connection with Kucinski’s death.

Camunias is already in the Will County jail on another drug case. The Bolingbrook police charged him last month with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bond for the drug-induced homicide case and another $150,000 for the earlier charges.

The warrant for Shemberger’s arrest also carries a $1 million bond. She also was arrested by the Bolingbrook police earlier this year on a narcotics case.

In May, Shemberger was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance. Prosecutors dropped the charge less than three months later.

Within a week of Shemberger’s release from jail, according to county records, Kucinski was dead.
