Marshalls Shoplifter Faces 2 Charges: Complaint

JOLIET, IL — The Will County State's Attorney's Office has filed two retail theft charges against 52-year-old Sherman Hearns Sr. in connection with allegations that the Joliet man stole several hundred dollars of athletic apparel and clothing from the Marshalls store on North Larkin Avenue. The Joliet Police Department conducted the criminal investigation.

The criminal complaint, filed Nov. 7, indicates the crimes happened on Aug. 9 and Aug. 22. The value of the athletic apparel that was stolen was worth more than $300, court records show.

A bench warrant was issued by a Will County judge last week for Hearns' arrest. Bail has been set at $35,000. As of Tuesday night, Hearns had not been taken into custody.

Hearns, who lives in the 400 block of Western Avenue, was in the Will County Jail from July 3 until Aug. 5 in connection with felony theft charges as well as a 2017 burglary, court records show. He has a 2009 burglary conviction in Will County, his criminal complaint states.
