I have been eating at this restaurant/diner for a few years now and to be honest it's because it's convenient. (I live about 5mins away). It's your typical coffee diner, no bells, no whistles, but it certainly gets the job done. They only serve breakfast and lunch so be aware of their hours prior to your visit. When you enter you immediately can tell it's a family owned establishment and there is an almost overwhelming amount of old decor. I swear it's Mel's Diner from the show Alice....well maybe not that old but honestly the plates, cups & decor could use some updating. Every waitress has been attentive and I've never had any mix ups or problems with my order. They have an extensive menu and the portion size is excellent! Some of my favorites are: the triple decker club house which is served with French fries or onion rings or cottage cheese, and a bowl of soup or a salad. The Butcher Shop Skillet A skillet filled with bacon, ham, sausage, green peppers, monterey jack cheese, mixed with diced potatoes. Topped with two eggs any style. Served with toast. This skillet is so big it's obscene. Also their buttermilk pancakes are pretty fluffy and seem to disappear from my plate instantly. They come with whipped cream if you'd like, but I don't. Whatever you order, be prepared to unbuckle your pants afterwards because you'll be stuffed. I usually have leftovers every time I eat here. As I mentioned the food & service is somewhat ordinary, but acceptable for the area. I'm used to quite a bit of seasoning (my family is from Louisiana) so some of Matty's items are bland to me, but when I add a sauce or salt they are good to go. Most of the time when I pay the bill at the counter there is an older woman or man and they are pretty nice and even have candy on the counter & who doesn't love FREE candy?!?!! Speaking of candy.... LoversLane is literally right next door so after you eat your breakfast, sneak over & see what types of treats they have lol I give Matty's 4 forks up. 🍴🍴🍴🍴 Try them & tell me what you think. Matty's is located @ 995 Brookforest Drive Shorewood, IL 60404
