Morris Redskins Are History: School Board Votes For New Mascot That Begins With Letter W
Morris High School was the home of one of the last racist high school sports mascots and some people in their town were OK with that.
MORRIS, IL — The Morris School Board made the decision at Monday night's meeting to rename the Morris High School as the Morris Warriors for the school's new nickname and mascot.
Joliet's WJOL 1340-AM broke the news of the decision. This brings an end to the Morris Redskins, one of the last remaining racist mascots left in Illinois high school prep sports.
If Morris did not become the Warriors, it was also considering changing its nickname to the Morris Mustangs or Morris Mallards.
