SHOREWOOD, IL — One of the most likable teachers at the Troy-Shorewood Elementary School in recent years has been music teacher Jonathan Greene, otherwise known as "Mr. Greene." On Sunday, Greene reached out to the Joliet Patch and Shorewood Patch to share the following announcement related to his tenure at Troy 30-C:

"Dear Shorewood Families and Students,

"For the past five years, it was my great privilege to serve you all as the music teacher of Shorewood Elementary School. While I wouldn’t change any of my experiences at Shorewood, a new chapter has come for me and my family.

"The Tri-Creek School Corporation, part of my hometown in Lowell, IN, recently offered me a position as the high school choral director. I accepted the position and am looking forward to going home and giving back to a community that gave so much to me.

"While I look forward to returning home, it doesn’t change how difficult this move will be. So many special memories were created at Shorewood. And you, the parents and the students, were the best part of those memories. Who will ever forget our Veteran’s Day assemblies, our choir concerts, our musicals, our singing of the National Anthem at a Slammers’ game, the classroom experiences and connections, the feeling of support when our community would rally around myself and the students? These memories are what I will always carry with me. I will cherish them, and they will greatly impact who I am as a teacher moving forward.

"Because I knew you all, and because we shared so many experiences together, I have been changed for good. I cannot express to you my deepest thanks and gratitude for entrusting me as steward of our greatest treasures: Shorewood families and students.
Lucky to have known and served you all,

Mr. Greene
