Slaying On Fairlane Drive: Joliet Police Have Suspect In Custody

Around 4 p.m., Joliet police were sent to the 700 block of Fairlane Drive. The victim was found inside the garage.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police detectives are investigating the city's second homicide of the year after a 50-year-old shooting victim was found by police shortly before 4 p.m. Monday inside an open garage in the 700 block of Fairlane Drive.

The victim died at St. Joe's hospital.

"It is believed that this shooting is domestic-related," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English announced. He said that fellow officers established a perimeter around the house and other family members were able to safely exit the home.

Area residents were asked to shelter in place during the investigation. The request was later lifted after officers searched the house, and it was learned that the shooting suspect was not there, according to English.

"At this time, a person of interest has been taken into custody related to this shooting. There is no threat to the public," English said.
