Murder In Joliet: 16-Year-Old Boy Dies From Multiple Gunshots
Joliet police are urging people to call the detective unit at 815-724-3020 with any leads.
JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department has dispatched several detectives in hopes of solving the slaying.
The killing happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of South Joliet Street, part of the city's southeast side.

- Officers located a 16-year-old boy who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
- Officers and Detectives secured the crime scene and initiated an investigation into this shooting.
- Identification of the victim and cause of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office.
"This is an active investigation in its early stages as Joliet Police Detectives work to identify a suspect or suspects," English said.

Tuesday night's shooting marks the third homicide in the city of Joliet limits that has been investigated by the Joliet Police Department so far in 2023, according to English.
January's gunshot homicide of 24-year-old mother Maya Smith in an alley in the 1200 block of Clement Street, and March's gunshot homicide of Matthew Woodfork at his home in the 700 block of Fairlane Drive, both resulted in first-degree murder charges for the accused killers.
