JOLIET, IL — Joliet resident Kenneth Edwards is no longer in custody in connection with last week's felony domestic violence arrest by Joliet police officers. After spending less than 24 hours in the Will County Jail, the 44-year-old Edwards was released July 1 after posting 10 percent of his $50,000 bail.

The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged Edwards with two counts of aggravated domestic battery and one count of domestic battery. He is accused of hitting a 30-year-old Joliet woman in the head and striking a juvenile in the face and trying to strangle the juvenile.

The 30-year-old woman has obtained an order of protection against Edwards, who she had been dating.

"Kenneth and I were discussing our relationship," court documents show. "Kenneth became upset, and I began to pack my clothes and shower to leave the home. As I was in the shower, I made a comment about the conversation ... Kenneth then came in the bathroom, and punched me in the head through the shower curtain."

The woman noted that her 13-year-old son heard her and Edwards arguing "and he banged on the bathroom door and told Kenneth to stop hitting me," court records state. "Kenneth then told my son to stop banging on the door. Kenneth opened the door and pushed him out of the way."

The woman informed Will County's judges that "Kenneth had pinned my son against the bed choking him. I pulled them apart and told my son to pack his stuff and put it in the car. As I was putting my things in the car, I turned to go back in the house and noticed Kenneth was at the top of the stairs choking my son again."

According to her account, Edwards "slapped him across his face so hard my son's body swung and flew against the wall, breaking his hand."

After the woman called Joliet police, Edwards barricaded himself behind the front and back door so police could not enter, court records state.

Officers ultimately arrested Edwards, who resided in the 2200 block of Joliet's Basswood Road.
